"4. City: ............................. Eureka (as in, where I live)"

Sadly, I still find this hilarious, a year after Jantz told me its name... I'm very easily amused :D

'Fortuna' is ~10 miles south. There's a city named 'Yreka' north of here (pronounced "Y-reeka") that people often confuse with Eureka.
Yreka Bakery = Awesome palindrome.
Yreka bakery? now that is awesome... (I'd heard the name, but didn't realise it was spelled like that... you americans and your weird placenames..)

I don't mind place names so much, but people's given names have been getting absolutely ridiculous as of late. >_>;
I remember ranting to other-emily on a number of occasions about how there was a difference between first and surnames, and why her people should learn this... nothing like as bad as celebrity names, though - i mean, surely it's bad enough having parents like the Beckhams or aging rockstars without being called "sherbert" "toothbrush" or whatever?

As in, "You can't just make up a surname, so why should you be able to make up a given name"?
Jantz was actually telling me the other day about how in Japan you're only allowed to use the kanji that kids learn in primary school plus some from another list to name your children,a nd I thought that was awesome. But then, they could still chose ancient readings if they wanted to make their kid 'stand out'. There's a girl in an idol group I enjoy whose name is written 愛 and pronounced Megumi. DX Like, it's an official reading and all, but there's no way that anyone ever gets her name right the first time. ^^ ;
I take it you're familiar with deathnote, where 夜神・月 is read Yagami Raito (Light)? But then again, he isn't a real person... but yeah, they're really strict on what you can and can't use in Japan. When one of my friends got dual nationality, she ended up with two completely different names, as they wouldn't let her use her English name in the Japanese passport...

I haven't really followed the anime scene very closely for several years, but.. that guy's name is awesome. XD
